Edgar L. Rice "Pop" 1905-1980

My maternal grandfather was a huge inspiration to me! Affectionately known as "Pop", he took a leap of faith and started his own printing business that lasted 50 years. Edgar L. Rice Printing Co. in Atlanta, Georgia was a first job for myself and my 3 older brothers. I worked there for 20 years. His encouragement lead me to designing logos for companies and becoming an art major.

After completing my college baseball career, I painted this for my  mother because she loved nature. I chose complimentary colors in the background to really highlight the cardinal & butterfly.

Autumn Leaves

This painting hung over my parents mantel. Painted almost 40 years ago while I was a student at Georgia State. A fun project, where we reproduced a famous painting by using a grid and only using a maximum of 3 colors in each square.
