1st Year Coach Robby Gilbert Leading the Way for the Fowlkes Family's Alma Mater!

My brother Eddie Fowlkes was the head varsity baseball coach for Decatur High School from 1982-2002.  Fifteen times, his teams finished 3rd or 4th in a region that usually included teams like Marist, Lovett, Westminster, and Pace Academy. That would have been 15 trips to the state tournament by today's rules.  But back then, your team had to come in 1st or 2nd to qualify.  Eddie did an outstanding job with what he had at Decatur.  He usually had little help and the talent was thin except for a few good years.  He taught his players how to compete every year, dedicated himself to the game of baseball, and took pride in representing his alma mater.
We lost our brother to brain cancer in the Spring of 2016.  A bulldog statue on the campus in Decatur, Georgia was dedicated in his honor.  Eddie was a beloved teacher and all his players loved him.
Robby Gilbert left Tucker High School last year to take the Decatur job.  His wife teaches at DHS and he has two great kids, Morgan and Abby.  Coach Robby was an assistant coach for the Tucker baseball team for many years and also assisted a few years for some very talented Providence Christian teams.  He was an outstanding assistant football coach for years for a powerhouse Tiger program. I can tell he is missed at Tucker High School where he was also a beloved teacher.
We're glad you're here Robby!  The Region 6-AAAAA Championship your players accomplished this year is believed to be the first baseball region title at the school since the early 1950's!  The two victories in the first round against Walnut Grove were amazing!  After an 11 inning loss, Decatur played til after midnight to win in 13 innings, advancing with a 7-6 win the following day.  A sweep of Union Grove advanced the Bulldogs to the Elite Eight. On behalf of the entire Fowlkes family, we appreciate your dedication to the game of baseball and the pride you have taken in leading this program.  Good luck next week against Starr's Mill!

I'll admit it. I committed a sin! I did something that no other youth baseball coach has ever done. Are you ready for this? I didn't stall.

The son of Tony and Julie became a star the other day. I met mom, dad, and Braylon a few years ago, when they played on the same team that I was helping to coach.

Mom would have been 90 this year, dad 95. But the spring of 2020, whew… what a year to be alive.

I almost decided not to go to the doctor on Monday morning, September 12, 2005. What if I didn't? I wouldn't be here today!

A few days before my first ever Fowlkes Baseball/End of Summer/Back to School/Sandlot Baseball Game, I was told about an incident that occurred recently at the 2019 Dizzy Dean World Series in Southaven, Mississippi.
